Building Bombay

In the 1880s Bombay was on the cusp of great change. Maritime trade was booming but the
Great Plague was looming and the town was bursting at the seams. When the cramped living conditions became untenable, the walls of Fort George were demolished to let in a breath of fresh air. This bold decision made room for urban expansion and Bombay has never looked back since.

An ambitious train terminus, a proper university, a High Court and impressive museum - these were only the beginnings of the buildings that would come to define Bombay as the First City of the East. Our guide will take you on a tour of the city’s architecture, highlighting the buildings that defined key moments in history and created an identity the megapolis we love and know as Mumbai.

Included in this discovery set: an A3 map. a stylish blank notebook and a pair of illustrated souvenir postcards.
